What the Solver is

Recreate any battle scenario and analyse the best moves from that position. It uses a similar search algorithm to the one Poker Solvers and Chess Engines use, which works well for Pokemon because Pokemon is a combination of Chess, Poker and Rock / Paper / Scissors. It is exceptionally useful for learning from your own past mistakes, or your opponent’s.

This is not “an AI suggests you a move”. These are thousands of simulated lines, and the best next action emerges from how those lines came out, which is why it keeps getting better the longer it runs.

Note that this uses open Team sheet, meaning yours and your opponents Pokemon moves, abilites, items and stats are all known to you and the opponent.

How it works

Both sides choose at the same time

Neither side sees the other's choice before it commits, because that is how the game works. A move that only wins when the opponent cooperates is never credited for it, which is why a board set up against itself comes out exactly even.

Every number is a count of played lines

An action's share is the share of the simulated lines it was played in, and its score is what those lines came out at. The search spends its time on the actions that keep looking good, so the ranking sharpens as it runs rather than just getting noisier.

The same engine as the damage calculator

Damage, accuracy, abilities, items, weather, terrain, Protect, redirection, Fake Out, sleep, Taunt, Encore, Intimidate, Focus Sash and the Speed order are the site's own battle model, the one checked against the Companion app's recordings.

Three free searches

Complete ones — the whole answer, not a preview. After that the Solver asks for Pro, which also makes Team Evaluation, Auto Build and Test against Tournament Teams unlimited, here and in the Companion.
